Students from the High School no.6 in Gdańsk recently had the unique opportunity to engage with librettist Jagoda Jagson. The purpose of the meeting was to familiarise themselves with the principles and tools for crafting narratives and screenplays. Their work will eventually find place in the libretto of the opera act centred around the element of the water, part of Project Butterfly.
During the session, Jagoda Jagson guided the students through the process of creating stories and scripts, essential elements for developing the libretto of an opera. The collaborative effort aimed to infuse the Project Butterfly opera with fresh perspectives of the young minds from the high school.
Beniamin Baczewski, the Polish composer who won the Open Call in Project Butterfly, was also present at the event. He shared insights into the musical aspects of opera composition and on the musical journey that accompanies the storytelling, providing the students with a comprehensive understanding of the collaborative nature of opera creation.
Project Butterfly encourages this type of event, in order to bring students closer to Opera. The initiative received financial backing from the Ministry of Culture and National Heritage through the Culture Promotion Fund, a state-targeted fund.
As the collaboration progresses, further details about the students’ contributions to the libretto and the Opera’s development will be revealed. The Project Butterfly initiative, with its focus on sustainability and cultural exchange, promises not only to deliver a captivating opera but also to foster a lasting appreciation for the arts among the participating students.
The event marks a significant step in the journey of Project Butterfly. This engagement not only enriches the learning experience for the students but also emphasises the importance of cross-disciplinary collaboration in the world of arts and culture.
