La pionieristica fusione di tecnologia VR e arti del National Theatre

Il National Theatre di Londra ha istituito un Immersive Storytelling Studio con l'obiettivo di studiare come le tecnologie emergenti come la Realtà Virtuale, Mista e Aumentata possano amplificare e arricchire il regno della narrazione drammatica. While the National Theatre hasn’t ventured into VR productions for opera, its work serves as a prime example of how VR technology can merge with various art forms, transcending traditional boundaries and enhancing artistic experiences.

The Studio’s array of projects has been showcased at venues and events, including the Venezia, Sundance, Tribeca, e Londra, oltre che all'IDFA, al The Young Vic, al MoMA, e al TATE Modern. The artistic portfolio included in this article concerns three prominent projects, each falling within the domains of theatre, museum, and cinema. These projects are respectively titled: “AMMA“, “Museum of Austerity,” and “Draw Me Close.”

Sostenuta dal National Lottery Heritage Fund e dal National Theatre Immersive Storytelling Studio, AMMA è un'innovativa produzione in realtà virtuale del Tara Theatre that immerses audiences in the memories of a woman who lived through the War of Independence in Bangladesh and later rebuilt her life in 1970s and 1980s Britain. This groundbreaking experience combines 360 VR storytelling with real-life testimonies from Bangladeshi women in various UK cities. Supported by the National Lottery Heritage Fund and the National Theatre Immersive Storytelling Studio, “AMMA” sheds light on the often unheard stories of women during the War of Independence in Bangladesh, providing a captivating and deeply affecting journey through time and space.

Museum of Austerity è una mostra in realtà mista che conserva i ricordi dell'era dell'austerità attraverso testimonianze verbali, musica originale e acquisizione volumetrica. Ha ricevuto consensi al London Film Festival e all'IDFA Festival.

Draw Me Close mescola performance dal vivo, realtà virtuale e animazione per creare un vivido libro di memorie su un rapporto madre-figlio durato venticinque anni. Il pubblico diventa il protagonista, Jordan, all'interno di un mondo animato dal vivo.
