We are excited to announce the successful conclusion of our open call for Composers. It is a big step for Project Butterfly, which is moving forward to create a new attitude towards sustainability in theatre and opera houses.
The open call, which started on the 27 of June, invited composers to become part of Project Butterfly by presenting one original piece in connection or association with the following themes depending on the language used to write the literary text: earth for Italian, air for Finnish and water for Polish. We have received dozens of remarkable applications from artists coming from diverse backgrounds who showcased an array of talents and an inspiring passion for Opera.
Once all the applications have been examined for eligibility, a Selection Committee will make a first selection of two compositions for each of the three languages indicated. The selection will be based both on the quality of the composition as well as the merits of the candidate. The selected pieces will then be further submitted to another selection committee.
Teatro Comunale di Modena, Opera Bałtycka and Opera Box, each one of Butterfly’s artistic partners, will then organize an audition among the school students involved in the project, who will vote for one of the two pre-selected
applicant compositions of their country.
We want to thank all the great talents who have responded to our call by submitting their works for their participation and support.
Stay tuned to our Project Butterfly website for the latest updates. We are looking forward to unveiling more about the exciting journey that lies ahead.
