Opera BOX Environmental Day: an inspiration for students

Opera BOX Environmental Day at Otaniemi High School allows students to learn about the World of Circular Economy and Carbon-Neutral Theater.

Students had the chance to deepen their knowledge of the themes of circular economy and carbon-neutral theatre, thanks to the event organised by Opera BOX in collaboration with Panu Sirkiä and Jyri Sucksdorff, leaders of MyStash. Over 300 enthusiastic high school students participated in the event, hosted by Opera BOX’s director and Project Butterfly’s Finland coordinator, Ville Salonen.

The day started with stimulating lectures about the basics of circular economy and the possibilities of carbon-neutral theatre. In doing so, Panu and Jiry explained how each individual can positively impact the environment and contribute to promoting a circular economy. For example, they encouraged young people to recycle, reduce unnecessary consumption, and pay attention to the life cycles of products.

On the other hand, regarding carbon-neutral theatre, Ville Salonen gave an inspirational speech. He underlined that in the field of theatre, significant changes could be made towards a more environmentally friendly future. Theatres could be an essential way to reduce carbon footprints. Salonen also challenged the youth to consider how they can contribute to a carbon-neutral theatre and make environmentally friendly choices.

During the environmental day, there was also the place for a Q&A session. The students were passionate, and the discussions were lively. They contemplate how to promote circular economy in their daily lives and how carbon-neutral theatre could be part of the future cultural scene.

Speech about the Project

Opera BOX’s environmental day was very significant. It provided precious awareness of what the students could do for the environment. The event demonstrated that circular economy and sustainable choices are accessible to everyone and can become part of everyday life. At the same time, it stimulated the debate about how art and culture can be part of a sustainable future.

This event, organised by Opera BOX and MyStash, successfully demonstrated the fusion of ecological themes with culture through engaging activities for young participants. With the hope that this event has made a lasting impact and inspired future ecofriendly actions, let’s remain open to the possibilities of more such initiatives.
