On November 9, 2023, the MAR (Ravenna Art Museum) hosted a conference where innovative ideas and promising cultural projects took centre stage. Organised by Creative Europe Italy Desk in collaboration with various cultural institutions and the city of Ravenna, the event provided an exclusive showcase of new calls for proposals from Europa Creativa – Cultura and MEDIA, just released by the EACEA (European Education and Culture Executive Agency), following the Annual Work Programme 2024 of the European Commission.
The conference started with the presentation of the calls and a special focus on Culture Moves Europe, a groundbreaking funding scheme for the mobility of artists, cultural operators, and artist residencies. During the second part of the meeting, attention shifted to ongoing projects, and it was at this moment that Alessandro Roveri, representing Teatro Comunale di Modena, took the stage to introduce Project Butterfly.
In his speech, Alessandro Roveri took the opportunity to present Project Butterfly, an international initiative aimed at promoting a sustainable vision for theatres and opera houses. He highlighted the project’s goal to redefine the way opera is created and produced, placing a strong emphasis on sustainability and collaboration.
This redefinition of opera is made possible thanks to the cooperation of our three Opera Partners—Teatro Comunale di Modena, Opera Baltycka, and Opera Box—and our other collaborators like AESS and Heimspiel. Alessandro Roveri emphasised the importance of these partnerships and Project Butterfly’s dedication not only to producing a sustainable opera but also to promoting creativity and inclusivity in the arts.
