Opera Box is an opera company born in 2016. Its first show was Richard Strauss’s opera Ariadne auf Naxos which received great acclaim. Then the company increased its production of shows and gradually became Helsinki’s second opera stage. It is based in the oldest opera house in the city, the Alexander Theatre.

Opera Box aims to enrich and develop the Finnish opera scene by producing its own and guest performances. The company has opera and operetta in the domestic language, where possible. The connection with the Finnish tradition is deep, but Opera Box aims to involve new artists in its projects.

Its repertoire includes classic opera shows from German, Italian, British and French traditions. However, one of the main activities is to commission contemporary operas. Opera Box is also involved in producing shows for children.
